Cocoa Marketing Company (GH) Limited Gets A New Board

The Minister of Finance and Economic planning, Mr.Seth Tekper,has on behalf of the present,
John Dramani Mahama inaugurated a seven member Board of the Cocoa Marketing Company (GH)
Limited at the Ministry of Finance in Accra.
The members are:
Dr. Stephen Kwabena Opuni-Chairman
Mr. Jacob Ofosu-Koree
Dr. Henry Wampah
Mr. Yaw Boateng Gyan
Mr. Maurice Tanco Abisa Seidu
Mr. Kwabena B. Oku Asare
Miss Louis Katherine Nartey

Mr.Tekper charge the Board to promote,sell and deliver Ghana's cocoa to both local cocoa
processors and the International traders and processors, take delivery of and store Ghana's cocoa at it designated warehouses in Tema, Takoradi and Kumasi take over centers and to support the financing of Ghana's cocoa sector by facilitating the annual Syndicated loan arrangement and ensure that sale of proceeds are collected towards the repayment to the loan."These are difficult tasks which need to be performed to sustain us at our current lower middle-income status and also move us into a fully-fledged middle-income economy" he added.He opined that although Ghana is acclaimed as the best cocoa producers in the world market, the financial returns to the economy in recent times has been unimpressive as a corollary of the falling and erratic international prices, adding that the new board must among other things, be challenged to achieve a significant growth in the cocoa sub-sector amid the volatility of the International market prices.The Minister encouraged the Board Members to collaborate with Cocobod and the Ministry to tourism to ensure that the hospitality industry is convinced to serve some amount of cocoa products to clients also encourages local processors to do more value addition to the raw cocoa beans.According to Mr. Tekper, it behoves the board to design measures to boost International demand and consumption of cocoa by shifting its target from the traditional buyers to attract new buyers and trading partners."The focus should be on Asia, which serves as the second largest export destination of Ghana's Cocoa.Mr. Tekper noted that the cocoa industry is a field where much is needed to sustain the economy and therefore called upon the media to be heavily involved in broadcasting the health benefits of cocoa consumption,urging the new board members to use their rich experience to help better the dwindling image of the industry.
